Bertha Reppert

The Rosemary House in charming downtown Mechanicsburg, PA is a Reppert-Brill family enterprise. Opened in 1968 by our founder Bertha Peplau Reppert (1919-1999), The Rosemary House is one of America’s oldest herb shops. It is a real treat for all your senses! Crammed full with herbal delights, wall to wall and floor to ceiling. We sell everything to do with herbs. If you don’t see it listed on our web pages please contact us and ask -- who knows what is hiding under the wok pans!

Founder Bertha Reppert learned about herbs in an Herbs of the Bible lecture at her Garden Club meeting. Her interest was sparked and off she went on her own study of herbs. Mrs. Reppert went on to author over three dozen books and booklets on herbs. She wrote a weekly column on herbs for quite a few years and lectured far and wide on the subject of herbs before her death in June of 1999.

David Brill

Now daughter, Susanna Reppert-Brill, the youngest of her four girls and husband David Brill operate The Rosemary House. Susanna grew up living and knowing the herb business and gardens with her mother. Susanna came to The Rosemary House everyday after school where she had a little desk for her crayons, papers and homework. She would listen to her mother answer endless questions and absorbed the herbal knowledge along with her milk and cookies. Eventually she worked after school and on Saturdays always willing to join in the herbal fun her mom created. After graduating from Penn State University (Go Nittany Lions!) she became manager of The Rosemary House. Susanna has continued to develop her herbal knowledge of all the amazing and practical uses of plants. Her most recent accomplishment is the completion of a Herbal Medicine course at David Winston’s Herbal Therapeutics School of Botanical Medicine.

David Brill joined the family and quickly joined the herbal fun. He has also completed the 500 hours of training in the Herbal Therapeutics School of Botanical Medicine with Susanna. In addition to this course, he has gone on to complete studies at Wellspring Center of Natural Healing. David Brill is now the primary consulting herbalist at The Rosemary House and is available for consultations.
